Dream Big Artwork by Julie Ann McKevitt

Image courtesy of artist Julie Ann McKevitt

Isn't this an amazing paintng with a powerful message?

DREAM BIG!

The image encouragesyou to believe in yourself because you can do anything you dream you can do. Dreams do become reality! Look at the people on American Idol, The Voice, and so many other shows. Look at the women in the Girls Succeed! book. They all had big dreams and made them come true. You can too!!

When I saw this painting on Julie Ann McKevitt's Facebook page, I asked her if she would allow me to post it here on the Girls Succeed blog. This artwork captured the whole idea behind this blog and all the energy and enthusiasm girls exude. I did a happy dance when she said "Yes."

I was pleased to discover Julie had painted and donated this beautiful wall hanging to Jesse's House, an emergency and long term shelter for at-risk girls ages 7-17. What an inspirational message to share with them and with all of you.

Thank you, Julie!

Girls Succeed Book Tour Winding Down--Enter Now to Win Prizes

The Girls Succeed Book Tour is drawing to a close. I want to thank my friends and authors who so graciously allowed me space to introduce readers to the e-book and the stories of the awesome women inside the pages.

Girls Succeed: Stories Behind the Careers of Successful Women is a project close to my heart. Girls have so many circumstances to deal with in today's teen lives. In fact, life is different for them compared to my life as a teen. There was no Internet, cell phones, emails, Facebook, and hey, not even microwaves. The problems of body image, availability of huge amounts of fast food and snacks filled with sugar and salt, bullying (well, yes, we did have bullies, but not on the Internet too!), and a life so full of activities the girl never gets to come down to spend time just dreaming big dreams.

I hope this book encourages big dreams and guides a girl toward making a plan for her life and working hard to achieve it.

There is still time to leave comments here and on the other blogs I visited so you will be entered into the drawings for a $10. amazon gift certificate, free Girls Succeed e-book with format of your choice, and inspirational notepads and gel pens. The link to the blogs are listed below. Winners will be announced at 9 pm Sunday evening.

Thanks for following. Best wishes!

Introducing Girls Succeed!!

Today I am going to explain why I titled this blog Girls Succeed. I want to introduce you to the book of the same name, Girls Succeed: Stories Behind the Careers of Successful Women.

From 2003-2006 I spent summers working at a girls summer resident camp in Michigan,  Camp Newaygo. I enjoyed meeting and interacting with the campers and the counselors. So many smart, energetic girls with such wonderful futures ahead of them. I wondered in this new world of more career opportunities for women what choices would girls make. What plans do they dream for their future?

In 2006 I began the process of interviewing successful women about their careers and how their lives led to their decisions. I gathered all the interviews and put them together so girls can discover information about careers.

It has taken me this long to get it all together and to decide to publish the book as an interactive e-book, the technology which completes my vision as a way to deliver an interesting, worthwhile experience for the readers. After each interview there are links and resources for learning more about the woman and her career. So when the reader is connected to the internet, she can click on links for more information.

It is my hope the profiles with these savvy women will inspire and empower the girls to dream big dreams and to work hard to make their dreams come true.

Girls Succeed: Stories Behind the Careers of Successful Women will be released in October. Come back for more information as I step into this exciting new adventure in publishing. Grab your ticket and join me as I share this new beginning with you.

Welcome to Girls Succeed!

Welcome!
Come on in to the Girls Succeed Blog.
This is the very first post so we are celebrating.

Let the party begin! I have delicious cheese cake, chocolate cake, marble cake, a huge bowl of fresh, colorful fruit, and all the soda pop (we call it pop in Michigan) you could ever dream of. Ice cream is at the end of the table. The punch bowl is over there in the corner. Help yourselves.

I am thrilled you found us. On this blog we are going to share stories about wonderful women who were once upon a time, girls like you. We'll learn about their dreams and how they succeeded in making their dreams come true.

We'll also learn about their dream careers and explore areas of interest to you.

You are welcome to leave a comment with suggestions for careers you are interested in pursuing. Thank you for visiting today.

Did you ever think about being a musher? Yep, that's a dog sledder. The next post is about Jamie, the dog sledder. Check it out!
