The demand for trades people is growing and businesses are searching for good, hard workers who love to create with their hands. Katie has made it her mission to train women for the jobs and to teach girls 8-14 years old many of the skills they can use to now to make clocks, sandboxes, and playhouses.
Katie founded Girls Build in Portland, Oregon because she wanted to "inspire curiosity and confidence in girls through the world of building." Girls Build offers workshops after school and/or a week of summer camp filled with building projects, games and fun.
She was chosen as an Everyday Hero by KATU TV Station in Oregon.

Simply put, Katie wants girls to "try stuff" and discover the skills she teaches. Do you have a desire to build something with your hands? Watch it grow into something useful? And look at your handiwork with pride?
